Yasiel Puig to miss Dodgers workout with bruised thigh

“They might say a couple of different things because it’s your last year, but the fans have always treated me well.” It’s true that Jeter has a season to prepare for, and soaking in the attention would detract from his single-minded focus. He has to prove he has fully recovered from a broken ankle, and that he can still play shortstop at a high level despite turning 40 midway through the season. He said he has never worked harder in a winter, and he came into camp at 194 pounds instead of his usual 199 in order to move more fluidly and take pressure off his legs. Still, his refusal to bask in the spotlight seems to run counter to his stated goals. During his retirement news conference Wednesday, Jeter said he would try to slow down and appreciate all the attention in his final season.

Five quick observations from Braves’ Thursday workout

We referenced Felix Hernandez above, one of baseball’s best starting pitchers right now. But for his early integration into the big leagues, even King Felix struggled on the hill, walking four or more batters six times and surrendering five-plus runs seven times. Granted, Hernandez broke into the majors at age 19 — fanning 11 batters in just his third MLB start — but it’s worth noting Teheran has seldom been a flight risk for walks since signing a pro contract at age 16. 2.
